WISSPER ACHIEVES STRONG LAUNCH IN SPAIN AND PORTUGAL
License holders include Dolci Preziosi, Cife and K Stationery in Spain and Portugal. The preschool series premiered on Clan TV in Spain.
The new animated preschool series “Wissper” has achieved a strong launch in the Iberian market thanks to its successful broadcast on Clan TV and the initial licensing agreements for Spain and Portugal signed by Planeta Junior, a leading European children’s and youth entertainment company. Highlights of the first deals signed by the Planeta Junior teams in Spain and Portugal include, for both territories: the Dolci Preziosi agreement for branded chocolate eggs and confectionery, Chocolates La Casa for Easter eggs, Cife Spain for Arts & Crafts.
In addition, K Stationery will handle Back to School in Portugal. Other agreements are currently being negotiated in all other product categories. With Simba Dickie Group holding the EMEA master toy license, the toy line will now soon be introduced in Spain and Portugal as well. The series premiered on Clan TV in Spain on 8 May and has achieved good audience ratings. It tripled the average channel audience in its first weekend, and all broadcasts from Monday to Sunday have achieved above‐average ratings, with very high peaks at weekends.
This demonstrates the series' great engagement with young audiences. In Portugal, the series has aired on RTP since February and will launch on Canal Panda in June. “Wissper” is also screened on pay TV channel MiniMini+, and on TVP abc in Poland since 15 April. Simba will launch products for the Christmas campaign during the final quarter of 2017. They will be available at Auchan, Tesco, Smyk, Leclerc, Carrefour, ToysRUs, Kaufland, Selgros, and on the traditional market. In the publishing sector, Media Service Zawada will launch picture books and activity notebooks. Aimed at preschool children, “Wissper” follows the adventures of a little girl by the same name who has a very special talent – she is able to communicate with animals, which allows her to understand their problems and help solve them. Wissper the “animal whisperer” is a beloved character for young viewers all around the world.
The 52 episodes of the CGI‐animated TV‐series are created by London‐based animation studio Cuckoo (formerly: Absolutely Cuckoo) – known for the BBC‐hit‐series “Waybuloo” – in coproduction with m4e AG, Telegael (Ireland), Discreet Art Productions (India), and the German BASTEI Media GmbH, a subsidiary of publisher Bastei Lübbe AG.
m4e manages the worldwide distribution. Season 2 with 52 new adventures of Wissper has been greenlit for production in January 2017. “Wissper” has been sold to over 100 countries and is achieving great success on channels like Milkshake! in the UK where it is number 1, RTL Telekids in the Netherlands, where it is one of the channel's most popular series and on Discovery Kids in Latin America, to name but a few.
